I am writing in respect of the recent incident that look place on Saturday 16th April 2022 approximately 17:30 hours on London Road / Monument Place, L1 1JJ, which resulted in the death of an 18-year-old male.

I understand this incident is extremely shocking and upsetting, but I want to reassure you that we are working hard to identify those involved and bring them to justice. We are aware that you will be concerned about this because serious incidents of this nature are not common within this community. We are keeping an open mind as to the motive of the incident but at this time, we believe it to be a targeted incident, and we do not believe there is a further threat in the area.

The investigation continues, which involves forensic examinations of the scene, CCTV examinations, carrying out door to door enquiries and speaking to witnesses. Local residents will see an increased police presence over the coming days and I'd urge anyone with any concerns to come and talk to any officers.
