Man appears in court charged with Saltburn house burglaries

A 46-year-old man arrested less than three hours after reports of early morning break-ins in Saltburn last week was later charged with in connection with three offences.

Officers were called to an address on Zetland Terrace in the town centre just minutes after midnight on Tuesday 14th October where the householder reported they’d disturbed a man in their address.

Then at 1.02am on Wednesday 15th October, officers received another report – this time of a burglary in progress in Montrose Street.  It was reported that keys to a van and a car had been taken.

Assisted by the Dog Support Unit, officers carried out an area search, coming across a male in all black clothing leaving a driveway on Windsor Road. The man was stop searched nearby by the dog section officers and while other officers continued to search the area, they found discarded fishing rods and reels which had been reported stolen from the shed belonging to a house on Windsor Road.

The fishing equipment was returned to the owner and detectives from CID questioned and later charged the man with three house burglaries.

He was remanded in custody until he appeared at Teesside Magistrates’ Court, from where he was further remanded until his next appearance at court on 13th November.We would appeal for anyone in and around the streets mentioned to check doorbell or private CCTV footage from 11pm on Monday 13th October to 2.45am on Tuesday 14th October and submit footage here:
