Officers were called to Barnby Road, Newark, around 5.30am on Monday (15 July) following reports a car had been in collision with a tree.
A 23-year-old man was found inside the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.
Sergeant Craig Luckett, of Nottinghamshire Roads Police Unit and Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “First and foremost, our thoughts are with the loved ones of the young man who died following this crash .“Our enquiries are ongoing to understand the circumstances of this collision. We would urge any witnesses to please get in touch with us.
“We would also ask any drivers who were in the area and may have recorded dashcam footage, which could help our investigation, to please contact us on the attached link.
“The road remained closed to allow us to conduct our investigation at the scene so I’d also like to thank people for their patience and understanding.
