Detectives investigating the death of a man in Stockton are appealing for further information from the public as they continue their extensive enquiries.
Police attended Yarm Lane, Stockton, shortly before 10pm on Wednesday 1 July following reports of a serious assault.
A 31-year-old was taken to hospital with serious injuries but, despite the efforts of medical staff, he sadly passed away.
A 49-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and he remains in police custody.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Chief Inspector John Bonner of Cleveland Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, said: "Our skilled and experienced detectives, forensic specialists and staff are continuing to progress this investigation at pace.
"I am truly grateful to them, as I am to the community, who have shown their support by sharing information and understanding the need for us to create some temporary disruption whilst our investigation progressed.
"Despite this, I’m continuing to appeal for information – what you might believe is insignificant could help us build a clearer picture. I would urge anyone who was in the Yarm Lane area on Wednesday evening, or who has not yet spoken to police, to come forward.
"I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dashcam, CCTV, doorbell or mobile phone footage from Yarm Lane, Hartington Road, Buchanan Street and surrounding areas between 9pm and 10pm on Wednesday night. Footage which appears routine or unrelated may still contain information of evidential value.
“Due to the fact that an arrest has been made and a criminal investigation is ongoing, I would ask the public not to speculate online as this may prejudice legal proceedings. Please also bear in mind the impact any comments could have loved ones during this extremely difficult time. Thank you for your co-operation and understanding.
"I recognise that incidents of this nature have a significant impact on local communities. Neighbourhood officers will continue to provide a visible policing presence in the area, offering reassurance and support to residents whilst our investigation continues."
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 128489. Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously online at or by calling 0800 555 111.
