Residents across Redcar & Cleveland are being reminded to lock their doors after a spate of so-called 2 in 1 burglaries overnight.

A 2 in 1 burglary is where suspects enter or break into an address and take car keys so they can steal the householder’s vehicle. Sometimes other items from the property are also stolen and transported away in the stolen vehicle.

Cleveland Police received a number of reports overnight from across the area and detectives from Redcar CID are investigating the following: Briggs Avenue in South Bank some time between 8pm Monday night and 7am today (Tuesday 31st January) Crime Ref 018869.

Borough Road, Redcar between 8.45pm and 9.15pm
Monday night, where two vehicles were stolen. Crime ref 018754. Brecon Drive, Redcar at around 1am today,
Tuesday 31st January. Crime ref 018807. Fir Rigg Drive, Marske by Sea between 1.10am and 1.20am today, Tuesday 31st January. Attempted theft of motor vehicle. Crime ref 018813.

The incidents involved the thieves gaining access via insecure doors and taking keys from coat pockets. While no arrests have currently been made, officers are following up a number of lines of enquiry and we would remind all residents to lock all doors to their property - especially overnight - and to keep vehicle keys out of sight and out of reach.

Police would also appeal for anyone with information/dashcam/doorbell or CCTV footage
to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting the relevant crime reference number for that incident.

If you don’t want to speak to police, you can pass information anonymously to or by phoning 0800 555
111.
